Reimagining a Workplace for the City of Austin
Town Lake Office is a 105,000 SF, five-floor remodel designed to bring new energy and functionality to an existing city-owned building. The City of Austin wanted a space where employees could return to work and feel inspired. The goal was to create a workplace that encouraged collaboration, supported flexibility, and reflected a modern civic identity.
The design vision focused on brightening and modernizing the building with light-colored finishes, clean lines, and thoughtfully layered lighting. This combination created a sense of openness and scale, transforming what had been a dated office space into a welcoming environment that feels fresh, vibrant, and purposeful.
Creating Light, Openness, and Connection
A wide range of materials and finishes were carefully selected to achieve the design intent. The strategic use of light-colored tile and abundant natural light became the centerpiece of the renovation. Each floor was reconfigured to create more collaborative work zones and flexible gathering spaces, supporting how employees work today while honoring the building’s civic role.
A Strong Partnership from Start to Finish
This project’s success reflects not only the quality of the construction but also the strength of the partnership behind it. The City of Austin team shared overwhelmingly positive feedback after touring the completed space.
“I am pleased to share that I received overwhelmingly positive feedback from our tour and presentation on Tuesday. I want to thank each of you for attending and for your valuable contributions to this project. As I mentioned during the meeting, the success of any project is ultimately defined by the strength of its team. Your professionalism, collaborative spirit, and commitment to prioritizing this work have been instrumental in our progress.
Building for People and Purpose
Town Lake Office is more than just an office renovation. It represents how a well-executed design can change how people experience their workplace. By focusing on light, openness, and collaboration, the City of Austin created a civic space that feels uplifting and modern.
For M&F, this project reflects the power of collaboration, craft, and trust, which are values that shape how we build every day.
